One week to recharge your life. Experience Madeira’s nature at its finest by walking through the lush green mountains of the island.

Wake up to the sound of the ocean, practice Yoga, salute the sun and enjoy the abundance of colourful flowers to uplift and balance your energy.

Madeira is a volcanic island situated in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Its high mountains, luxurious green and semi tropical vegetation, with a mild climate and a soft sea breeze gave the inspiration for the island to be called ‘the pearl of the Atlantic’.

The Location

Swimming PoolThe hotel, on the south west coast of the island, sits on a cliff-top surrounded by the sea within a village called ‘Ponta do Sol’, which literally means the Point of the Sun. It is a peaceful and beautiful place where you can enjoy the excellent pebble beach and amazing sunsets.

Estalagem da Ponta do Sol is a modern hotel which is beautifully integrated with its surroundings. It has a stunning outdoor infinity swimming pool with a further pool indoors and a jacuzzi. There is also a Spa where you can indulge yourself with a choice of massages and beauty treatments. The hotel has a relaxing atmosphere; a place where you can relax, retreat and renew. More information about the hotel can be found at http://www.pontadosol.com

Hotel da Vila - is an extension of Estalagem da Ponta do Sol and is located on the historical center of the small village of Ponta do Sol, by the sea. Only 3 minutes walking distance from Estalagem da Ponta do Sol, guests can use all the facilities of both hotels.

Yoga with Deborah Richards and Katie Worsdell

This year my dear friend and Yoga buddy Katie is sharing this retreat with me. Katie and I have trained together in most of our Yoga studies – we did our 200h yoga teacher training together as well as our Yin Yoga immersion and recently a full on one year of Anatomy of movement with Gary Carter. Although we both have our unique style of teaching, we do share a lot in common and we approach our Yoga practice with very similar values and beliefs. 'Levada' Walks

Mountain Flowers"Levada"is a Portuguese word derived from the word "levar" - which means to carry and is roughly translated as ‘carriageway’, but more correctly defined as ‘mini-canal’. The mini-canals are irrigation systems developed to distribute water from the wet regions in the north of Madeira Island to the drier sun parched regions in the south. The water is usually stored in reservoirs or captured directly from natural fountains to be redirected and channelled across a wide network of winding canals. These narrow water carriageways deliver precious water across great distances to banana plantations, vineyards, fruit orchards and vegetable gardens, as well as to hydro-electric power stations dotted around the island. The levadas criss-cross the mountains and cover a total distance of 2,500 km, and date back to as far as the early 16th century.

The Levada "Walks" are walking trails along the maintenance paths beside the Levadas that take us on a journey of discovery through history and through amazing vegetation of the island that is not accessible by car.

Retreat Programme

Although this is an organized trip to practise Yoga and discover the island by foot, the retreat allows plenty of free time to do whatever you feel like…sit by the pool with a good book, go visit Funchal - the capital of the island - or engage in any other activity that appeals to you – the hotel offers a good range of alternatives or I can always help you to find what you want – Katie grew up in Madeira and knows the island very well.

Katie and I are still organising the Retreat Programme with all the details about the Yoga classes/workshops and the full description of the walks. We are working on it with our contacts in Madeira and the information will be released as soon as possible.

If you are interested in coming along, please fill in the Booking Form together with the Health Questionnaire and contact Katie or Deborah to reserve your space. Once we receive your deposit we will send you a receipt confirming your reservation.
