Welcome to Make Space Yoga
If you are looking for yoga classes in Surrey… Cobham and East Horsley or Walton on the Hill and Tadworth, then I am delighted to offer you a choice. Classes for beginners, intermediate and also for the senior student. Yoga is not just for the young. The sessions are kept small and intimate in order to get maximum benefit from each visit. Small classes enable me to get to know each student well and work with any specific needs, adapting postures if needs be.
"The notion of this practice is to go along the way of the body."
Vanda Scaravelli
If private yoga classes are what you are after, I am the perfect solution. I am adaptable to your times and available via email or phone to give advice.
The styles of yoga I teach are Hatha Vinyasa Flow and Yin Yoga. What does that mean to someone with no experience in yoga?
Hatha Yoga is the building block that most other forms of yoga have grown from. The student moves through different postures, aligning the body in such a way that allows an opening and lengthening to occur, so that energy within the body can flow freely. These ‘sequenced flows’ of movement gradually build strength, stamina and increase flexibility. This combination of physical movement along with certain breathing techniques (known as Pranayama), calm the mind and leave a feeling of focus and equanimity.
Vinyasameans establishing a connection between breath and movement. Put simply, as you change from one posture to another, you are guided to move on either an ‘inhale’ or an ‘exhale’. Gradually as the body and the breath flow together the practitioner can access a deeper presence and inner peace.
Yin Yoga is based on the Taoist concept of yin and yang. Yin is the stable, unmoving, hidden aspect of things. In the body, the relatively stiff connective tissues (tendons, ligaments, fascia) are what we focus on. A Yin Yoga class usually consists of a series of long-held, passive floor poses that mainly work the lower part of the body—the hips, pelvis, inner thighs, lower spine. These areas are especially rich in connective tissues. The poses are practiced with relaxed muscles and are suitable for most people.
"In yoga we concentrate on both form (our bodies and tissues), and formlessness (our breath, energy channels and mind states). These interconnected aspects of reality are in constant interplay, they are the Yin and Yang of life"
Sarah Powers
I invite you to join me on this life time journey of yoga either in Cobham or Walton on the Hill in a class or privately in a one to one. All levels welcome.
